Here is some of my favorite guiding mantras and what they mean to me:

• JUST BE PLAN FREE
  Let each moment unfold without deciding how it should start or where it should go.
  When you release goals and “shoulds,” the unknown becomes a place of discovery.
  Each brushstroke invites surprise, letting unexpected shapes and meanings rise on their own—like dreams coming forward.
  Being plan free allows your inner muse to lead the way.

• THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY
  Whatever is your way is the right way. If there’s no single “right” way, there’s also no wrong way—only your authentic expression. Imagine if everyone painted the same tree the same way—art would lose its magic. When you honor your own approach, your work becomes uniquely yours: alive, original, and true. Your way is always the best way.

• LET GO OF CONTROL
  Release the need to manage every stroke, and trust that you don’t have to be in charge. Control can suffocate the part of you that is wild, curious, and free. Let the brush wander. Let the drips fall. Let color move where it wants to go.
  Follow what feels true in the moment and see what rises naturally from flow. When you loosen your grip, your creativity finds its own way to you—bringing freedom, joy, and unexpected beauty.

• THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS, NO MISTAKES
  Everything that happens is part of the process. Instead of frustration, meet the unexpected with curiosity—treat it as a clue, a gift, or a nudge from something wiser within you. A spill might become a river; a splatter might inspire wings. Assume your unconscious knows more than you do and let it lead. When you paint as if everything is meant for you, every moment becomes an opportunity, a lesson, or a doorway into something new.

• PAINT AS IF YOU WILL BURN IT
  Create as if you have nothing to lose. Imagine you’ll toss the painting into a fire when you’re done—notice how instantly your body relaxes, opens, and says yes. That’s the energy to paint from: wild, unfiltered, and fully alive. Trust every impulse. Don’t hesitate. Don’t hold back. With no attachment to the outcome, you become fearless—free to experiment, take risks, and let radical change unfold. Paint boldly. Paint freely. Paint like the whole thing could disappear tomorrow.

• PAINT BEYOND PRETTY
  Let go of making something attractive and let your painting tell the truth of how you feel. Intuition Painting® invites you to express emotions that are raw, charged, or stuck—through color, movement, and spontaneous marks. Throw paint, splatter wildly, dance with the brush, or lean into boredom and paint that. When you paint your emotions instead of polishing them, you release their weight and free your energy. Let your heart speak in color and form. Forget pretty—paint what’s real.

• RELEASE PERFECTION
  Let go of “perfect”—it doesn’t exist in art or in you. Perfection smothers joy and silences your muse. Your art, like you, is beautifully imperfect—and that’s what makes it real, alive, and unmistakably yours. When you stop striving for flawless outcomes, you free yourself to explore, play, and discover what’s waiting beneath the surface. And often, the most compelling parts of a painting are the so-called imperfections—the wild edges, the surprises, the places where you let go. Perfection is overrated. Release it, and feel your creativity soar.

• TRUST YOUR INTUITION
  Your intuition is always guiding you—listen, and a whole new world opens. In Intuition Painting®, your inner guidance may arrive as a feeling, image, word, or sensation. However it comes, trust it. Let your brush move in the direction that feels alive or compelling, whether the energy is gentle or wild. Follow the nudges, even when they seem unusual or unclear. These whisperings hold the doorway to deeper creativity, higher insight, and more meaningful expression. Your intuition knows the way. Let it lead.

• TRY NOT TO TRY
  Trying gets in the way of simply being. Think of a child drawing—completely present, unselfconscious, and joyfully absorbed. That’s the spirit of Intuition Painting®: moving with instinct, without aim or expectation. Your only job is to pick up the brush and make a mark. Stay open, curious, and willing to receive whatever wants to come through. Let go of effort. Let your impulses lead. Try… not trying.
