The Hero/Heroine’s Journey in Intuition Painting

Mapping Myth to Creativity: Back in 2023, when I attended my first Intuition Painting® Workshop in Joshua Tree, CA with founder Montine Blank, I realized that the wheel of the process mirrored the archetypal paths of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey (the external quest) and Maureen Murdock’s Heroine’s Journey (the inner transformation). Wanting to understand this more deeply, I mapped the stages together—interweaving mythic storytelling with the creative flow of Intuition Painting®—to show how the process guides us through both an outward adventure and an inward awakening.

A New Adventure with Every Canvas: What I love most is that every time I begin a new painting, I feel as though I’m setting out on a fresh adventure to uncover hidden inner treasures. Intuition Painting® isn’t a “one and done” workshop—it’s a living practice to weave into daily life. You can return again and again: by coming back for another workshop (check out my upcoming workshops (or contact me if interested in a one on one or small group session): UPCOMING EVENTS — Soul Journey Arts , creating a sacred painting space at home, or even joining workshops around the world through the Global Facilitators page (check out Montine’s Italy Workshop, it’s on my bucket list!): GLOBAL DIRECTORY — Soul Journey Arts

From Journaling to Painting: For me, the process has become a trusted companion. When I’m wrestling with a difficult situation, facing a decision, or simply searching for direction, the canvas opens a doorway into wisdom I didn’t know I was carrying. I once depended solely on journaling to unclog my mind and access my intuition, but painting has taken me deeper—into the body, the senses, and the soul.

Embodied Practices That Awaken the Soul: Embodied practices are portals into our deepest knowing. Painting, writing, dancing, breathwork, singing, chanting, yoga, meditation, drumming, walking in nature, storytelling, ritual, tai chi, qi gong—even gardening or mindful cooking—are all ways of listening inward. They remind us that the answers we seek aren’t “out there.” They live in us, waiting patiently to be revealed.

Join the Journey: Every brushstroke, every breath, every step taken with awareness is part of the great adventure of becoming. Intuition Painting® is an invitation to step onto the path, to let your inner voice speak in color and form, and to carry your discoveries back into your everyday life.

Ready to begin? You can join me at an upcoming Soul Journey Arts workshop, create a sacred painting practice at home, or explore the Global Facilitators page to find a workshop or retreat near you. Wherever you begin, your journey will lead you inward—toward the treasures that have always been yours.

Your Canvas is a Hero/Heroine’s Journey

Intuition Painting® is a Soul Journey Vision Quest — 6 stages from presence to transformation.

  • Stage 1: Center — Answering the Call

    • Ground your energy. Breathe. Arrive fully. Every quest begins with presence.

  • Stage 2: Let Go — Crossing the Threshold

    • Release judgment and expectation. Lay down control. Step into the unknown with courage.

  • Stage 3: Connect — Entering the Mystery

    • Paint spontaneously. Let dreamlike images emerge. Trust what rises from within.

  • Stage 4: Reveal — Finding the Treasure

    • Decode the messages. Notice symbols and insights. Your canvas speaks your soul’s language.

  • Stage 5: Transform — The Alchemy of Change

    • Evolve the painting. Shift what no longer serves. Invite the image of your becoming.

  • Stage 6: Embody — The Return with Wisdom

    • Carry the insights into daily life. Walk your truth with courage. Live as the heroine of your own story.

Closing / Call to Action: Your Painting is Your Becoming — Each stroke is a step. Each stage, a passage.
