Why I See Life Through Myth: Finding Meaning in the Stories We Live

For most of my life, I thought myths were stories we read.
They belonged to ancient cultures, old religions, and dusty books on library shelves.

Over time, I began to realize something surprising. We are all living inside stories.

The beliefs we inherit, the roles we learn to play, and the expectations placed upon us shape the narrative framework of our lives. For many years we move through that framework assuming it is simply the way things are. Until something shifts.

For many people there comes a moment when the story cracks open. A loss. A question. A quiet realization that the life we are living no longer fits the truth we feel inside.

In mythology, this moment appears again and again as the descent.

  • Persephone descends to the underworld.

  • Inanna passes through the seven gates.

  • Psyche wanders through impossible trials.

These stories were never just about gods and goddesses. They were maps for the human experience of transformation.

Over time I began to recognize similar patterns in my own life. What once felt like random events began to form a kind of narrative arc. Periods of certainty were followed by disruption, questioning, and eventually the discovery of something new.

Seeing life through myth does not make difficulty disappear, but it changes how we understand it. Instead of asking why something is happening to us, we begin asking where we are in the story. The descent is no longer failure. It is part of the journey.

Creativity has been one of the ways I have come to recognize these patterns more clearly. Through intuition painting, images and symbols often emerge without planning. Over time I began to notice that the paintings reflected inner transitions I was already moving through. The canvas became a mirror for the deeper story unfolding beneath everyday life.

This is where intuition becomes important. Developing intuition is not about predicting the future. It is about learning to listen to the signals of our inner life, the quiet sense of what is true, what is changing, and what is asking to emerge.

Myth and intuition work together in this way. Myth offers the archetypal patterns. Intuition helps us recognize those patterns within our own lives.

When we begin to see life through this lens, something shifts. Our experiences start to feel less random and more meaningful. We begin to understand that transformation is not unusual. It is part of being human.

Our stories are not mistakes. They are journeys.

This perspective is also what inspires the myth-based meditations I share on my YouTube channel, where ancient stories become invitations to reflect on the deeper patterns moving through our own lives.

Eventually we begin to realize something simple and surprising.

Stories are not only something we read.

They are something we live.
